Ania Pieranska Plays Softly
Ania Pieranska is an artist. For today, she has chosen seven songs that appeared more or less chronologically in her life – and stayed for good. You can listen to them here, and read more about each below.
»1. Oh, Yoko, by John Lennon
I used to always listen to John Lennon’s solo album when going on road trips with my parents. This song is my favourite of his.
2. The Mask, by Fugees
I got a Fugees discography as a kid from my older brother and swapped from Brithey Spears to hip hop. I still love the mask metaphor from this song!
3. Ex Factor by Ms. Lauryn Hill
Then, of course, I fell in love with Lauryn and her ›Miseducation‹ album.
4. Pass This On, by the Knife
It was the go-to song at our high school parties. Probably because everyone was always in love with someone’s brother, so it reflected our teenage passions accurately.
5. Broken Arrows, by Jose Gonzales
He used to be my favourite musician, and perhaps still is. I recently watched the film about him called ›Tiger in Paradise‹ and I sympathise with him even more - I, too, question why I didn’t become a scientist. I also love the trumpet at the end of this song.
6. My Favorite Things, by John Coltrane
I used to put on John Coltrane often when studying architecture, and listened to him more or less on repeat. It keeps you at a high pace and is complex enough to not put you in danger of making a boring project.
7. Dzieci Malarzy, by Natalia Przybysz
She’s my favourite contemporary Polish singer. This song is about children of painters, and how screwed they are by their parents’ egos – but also how resilient they end up. Very poetic!«
